Ego Sum

What does it mean when it is said that Spirit moves through everything in existence? How can one relate to that from an ego perspective? The flow is interrupted because the mind tries to understand it. This is beyond the mind and yet the mind has a snapshot of what it experienced.

Our language model will give it a meaning to extract a sense of clarity and then a memory that we are able to draw upon as time moves along. At that point it becomes personal and unique, often colored by our own past experiences which feed into this event.

We have been conditioned through society to see this as normal and a part of relationship to reality. In a way, we have all agreed to do this on an unconscious level. What is an abstract lifeforce is in our collective mind limited to something that has a meaning. Through giving it meaning it becomes part of the collective interpretation and as we agree upon this collectively, Spirit is not diminished in any way, but we are because we have limited our relationship to it through our ego’s ignorance.

The true life-enhancing nature of Spirt becomes misunderstood as a meaning that has no relation to its true expression is placed upon it with the purpose of creating common ground that people can draw from to create a sense of comfortableness and familiarity with oneself and each other.

When an individual says “I am ____”, they become that for the time that they commit to it. This could be a minute or a lifetime. It can become their identity or mask that they discard when they so choose. Spending some time in theater, I remember the director asking the cast to leave who we are at the door when they arrive and to become the people in the play that we are portraying; as if dropping an identity and adopting another. How many roles have we played in our lives so far? How many are we still playing that we no longer need to?

The core of who we are is Spirit. The innocence of a child is proof of this. They come here still connected to the Spirit world and they know that they are Spirit but cannot say that they are. They cannot contextualize it as it just is. Words are meant to describe and yet they cannot accomplish this, not because children have limited or no language to use but because language is designed to communicate thoughts through vocalization. Language has a beginning and end, Spirit does not; it just is.

As children grow older, patterns from family genetics begin to emerge alongside Spirit. Then comes environmental influences. As we age a sense of self emerges as a clear distinction between this is me and this is not me has arrived in our awareness. Often this conclusion is further developed from society, traditions, being the continuation of what was before. We adopt this in our own way and it layers our personal reality and so adds to the collective reality. 

As these layers upon layers cover Spirit our relationship to Spirit is distorted because we are taught duality, ‘I am Spirit’. Is there two here or one experiencing the other?

The mind wants to have control and so it defines the layers, gives value to them which we invest our personality into or derive a personality from. We become multi-layered and complicated because of our relationship to the layers. When we say that we are this or that state of mind or this emotion, Spirit is having the experience of say happiness or the state of mental confusion or depression. These are often judged by our sense of self and yet Spirit has no relationship to them. We create the illusion of being separate from Spirit and in doing that we suffer because we become what we are not and deny what we truly are.

When we say Ego sum (I am) that or the other, realise that it is temporary. Have the experience, like taking on a role in a theatrical play. When the curtain is draw and the audience claps, it is your time to return to the innocence that is your true form. From there await your next experience, and so on and so one; all the while returning to the flow that you will return to when you pass on from this earthly dimension.
